Vol. III-Issue 1--"We laugh like soft mad children smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy." Jim Morrison-The Doors-Ghost Dance

I would like to extend my greatest welcome to everyone here for Volume III. Yes, Portal Magazine has been up and running for two full years and delivering the goods to its microcosm of fans. I hope everyone likes the changes here, although miniscule they may seem, and really look forward to another great volume of fiction. Don’t be scared to give us suggestions via the Comments and Rants link here--- we’d be more than happy to oblige if they help to improve the layout and functionality--- or not.

As we diligently await the arrival of spring I have been often taken to this new word being tossed around, Throwback. The word alone reminds me personally of Throw Up but it does fit what Corporate America is trying to get across. We have Throwback Mountain Dew and Pepsi all which could just go under the word Vintage or Nostalgic, so yes, I guess Throwback is suitable—and I believe we should all step back a little and take a look at our life with a feeling of Nostalgia and count the joys or curses we’ve come across that have inspired us to move on and draw from. On that note, I’ve decided to do a little Throwback for Portal Magazine, a sort of odd look into past issues of anything remotely related to my own personal fiction here at the Magazine and the bizarre, to reflect on how much better I've grown into writing:

We’ve had Animal Planet’s Gator Lady appear in an apparition, smiling oddly at the camera and a Cameo picture of her. We’ve read about Old Men of Corporate America and have learned about Fishers of the sea of men’s wives and the very definition of them. Backstock Bopz volume one was a big hit as well as several Youtube postings of a Possessed Elmo Doll, a movie loosely based on Blood Death (a very short flash fiction piece by me, Tim Eagle), and many more to suite your appetite for video and narration. It all boils down to one thing, the past in writing is a great inspiration to we creative people and this years volume is going to be great, because we all, including me, the most confident sometimes fragile writer that I am.

The meat and potatoes that Volume III has to offer are Brent D. Seth’s CCSYC, Chapter 19, which has stunned us all over the past two volumes of Portal Magazine. My own piece of work, Stevats’ Dusk (tentatively titled), which will be posted monthly as an installation for my fans (greatly inspired by other ill written tales that I’m too scared to post, because they once bit the writer’s recycle bin). We may even be lucky enough to get a submission from the enigmatic Ryan Barylski to break ground for the New Year.

Happy Reading to all, and to all a good night, spring ahead, and a full year of great Michigan Fiction, thanks for stopping by.
